What is the Average IVF Cost in India?

Before selecting an IVF clinic in India, remember that the expenses are not limited to just the IVF cycle treatment procedure. Typically, an IVF cycle involves a lot of steps, each divided in terms of cost and time.

First, you have a pre-treatment consultation with the specialist to understand the issue contributing to the fertility concerns. When a firm diagnosis is established, the next step is to undergo the multiple steps that are involved in an IVF cycle treatment itself, including fertility medications, egg retrieval, fertilization, and transfer of the embryo to the intended mother.

Following the embryo transfer, you have to visit the clinic for a pregnancy test, which is chargeable too.

Estimated IVF Costs in Delhi and Mumbai:

  • Arranging for preparation in the USA at an IVF Clinic near you. You will pay the clinic for the preparation directly – typically around $1,000 to $2,000. Your health insurance may cover this.
  • For only doing IVF without egg donor $8,000
    • Typical cost in USA including medication $20,000
  • For preparing and transferring frozen embryos $4,000
    • Typical cost in USA including medication $10,000

So, on average, the IVF cost in India will depend on:

  • Location of the clinic
  • Patient’s existing health
  • Number of IVF cycles required
  • Treatment course
  • Medications involved
  • Follow-up care

Effective Ways to Get the Best IVF Treatment Cost in Delhi and Mumbai

Since IVF is becoming more mainstream in India, more clinics and treatment centers are opening across the country. However, your aim while looking for low-cost IVF treatment in Delhi and Mumbai is to focus on the quality of treatment.

There are certain factors that determine the success of your IVF treatment and the investment you make to conceive your biological child. We have sorted out the top 3 influencing factors:

1 Choose the Right IVF Center

Do you know one of the common reasons why IVF treatment costs pile up? It is due to availing the treatment from an inadequate IVF center. When you are working with an inexperienced or unreliable fertility specialist, it reflects on the treatment outcome. You are less likely to conceive after the first round of treatment, leading to needing more IVF cycles. This eventually adds to the costs of your IVF treatment.

When choosing an IVF center, look for:

  • Experienced and board-certified senior fertility doctors
  • Experienced embryologists
  • Availability of the state-of-the-art infrastructure and latest technology

At the IVF Center we refer you to, our multidisciplinary team of doctors is board-certified and highly experienced in their specialization. We take pride in offering a higher success rate in our first IVF cycles, thereby reducing the overall treatment costs.

2 Plan Things Proactively

Infertility is often a subject that raises social stigma. People are either too averted to discuss it, or they are prideful to acknowledge that something could be wrong with their reproductive health. The more you delay your IVF treatment, the lesser the chances of success after the first IVF cycle. Especially in women as it depends on her age. If you delay getting a diagnosis and the allied treatment to correct the issue, the chances of a successful pregnancy reduce subsequently.

What we would recommend doing is seeking immediate medical intervention if you have been trying for a baby for a few years but have been unable to conceive. The earlier you avail of the treatment, the more your chances of a successful conception on the first IVF cycle, leading to reduced costs.

3 Select the Right IVF Package

As we mentioned before, the IVF treatment plan for a patient depends on their personal concerns. The treatment depends on the diagnosis. If the fertility specialist cannot pinpoint a particular reason behind your infertility, chances are that they will suggest availing the normal IVF success package.

However, if there are blockages, poor sperm quality, uterus-related concerns, infections, polyps, fibroids, etc., the IVF treatment plan changes subsequently. There could be additional treatments in the IVF package, including donor gametes, hysteroscopy, ICSI, etc.

Instead of blindly settling on an IVF package, discuss all the options comprehensively with your specialist. Once they explain things better, it will become easier for you to pick the treatment package that you think will work the best for you.

The doctors and staff we refer you to offer a comprehensive breakdown of the treatment route, explaining each step with the associated costs. We believe in maintaining 100% transparency with the financials, so there are no risks of hidden charges.

The Process:

Medical Tests and Investigation Results

Before starting the process, you need to choose a fertility clinic in the USA or Canada and get checked to ensure you are medically ready to proceed down this exciting path. Also, the clinic will prepare you for the first four to five weeks using the protocol from the clinic in India. What this means on a practical level is that your most recent blood tests and pelvic ultrasound are not more than one year old. Your chosen fertility clinic will ask you to complete a Medical Information Questionnaire, providing the results of all your most recent tests.

If you need a recommendation on an IVF Clinic to use in the USA or in India, we can give you some excellent recommendations.

The clinic will require copies of your test results (no older than 12 months), so start collecting the results ASAP and forward them directly to the clinic. Unfortunately, the clinic will not start any treatment without receiving your results first. Although clinics do vary as to which results, they require, most of them will ask you to provide copies of the following tests:

Female Partner:

A: Blood tests:

  • HIV I & II antibodies
  • RPR/VDRL/TPHA (Syphilis)
  • Hepatitis B surface antigen
  • Hepatitis C antibodies
  • Rubella IgG (immunity)
  • Day 3 FSH
  • TSH
  • Prolactin

B: Transvaginal ultrasound scan of the pelvis

C: Other:

  • *HSG (hysterosalpingogram) or hysteroscopy or saline infusion sonogram (* not compulsory but might be requested by your treating Doctor after reviewing your medical history and ultrasound scan result)
  • *Laparoscopy report if available (* not compulsory but might be requested by your treating Doctor after reviewing your medical history)

Male Partner:

A: Blood tests:

  • HIV I & II antibodies
  • RPR/VDRL/TPHA (Syphilis)
  • Hepatitis B surface antigen
  • Hepatitis C antibodies

The process is as follows.

  • You decide you would like to use an Indian Donor and have the process done in Mumbai or New Delhi
  • We will send you the forms to complete, which you complete and return to us.
  • Upon receipt of the forms, you receive the following:
    • a. A welcome letter from the clinic
    • b. Travel, car, and hotel options for your 2 to 4 week stay in India. You can then make your own travel arrangements to India at your cost.
    • c. A protocol for the female Intended Parent to prepare herself for four weeks before going to India.
    • d. Upon receipt, please take the protocol to your local physician to get started on the protocol. These charges are not included in the $12,000 fee and may be covered by your health insurance.
    • e. You then schedule your trip to India.
    • f. On arrival in India, you will be greeted by a Car with an English-speaking driver who will take you to your hotel and be at your disposable throughout your stay.
    • g. The next morning the driver will take you to the clinic where the male intended parent will give a sperm specimen and the female intended parent will be examined medically and prepared as needed for the IVF donation.
      • The embryos will then be created at the clinic by their Embryologist. For the best results we recommend a day 5 Blastocyst.
      • Only 1 or 2 embryos at most will be implanted due to the elevated risk of having twins. This will depend on the female intended parents lining and personal wishes on the morning of the transfer.
    • h. Upon completion of the embryo implantation, the intended parents will rest for a few days and then fly home.
    • i. The female will then schedule a pregnancy test on day 10 of the embryo implantation and if everything goes well, will be pregnant!
  • A: If you use our recommended FDA licensed facility, success rates are like other FDA facilities in the USA.
  • At other non-FDA certified IVF Centers in India, the results may be not as good.
  • The biggest difference is that in the USA, we see mostly one egg being implanted. In India, you see mostly two eggs being implanted. This may be a reflection of the different medications and state-of-the-art equipment in the USA.
